A fellow fan was kind enough to recently send me a bunch of Senseless Things recordings. Most of them I already had on this site, however, it was very exciting to see that there was a collection of early live recordings that mostly consist of songs I myself had never even heard. The collection is now on the sounds section of the site, listed as Live Rarities ('88 - '89). Also newly available is the Mark Keds' set from the 4 Wiz benefit. Enjoy!
Also, I'm still looking for a copy of the Andi In a Karmann EP. If anyone has a copy they would consider parting with I'll offer a good price.
Lastly, once again, if anyone has any Senseless Things recordings or other materials that aren't on the site, please contact me.

The page has finally been updated. In addition to a slightly modified layout there are some new sounds (including an early live show and a set of demos which consists of an unreleased song allegedly entitled 'Subway Scruff'). Also tons of new articles have been scanned and uploaded.
If you have anything Senseless Things related that isn't already on the site, please contact me. Also, I am looking for a recording of the 4 Wiz gig (someone was kind enough to hook me up with MP3s and I somehow lost the bloody things - DOH!) I am also looking for an 'Andi' EP...

The rare sounds section has been updated with a great live show from '92 - right before the 'Homophobic Asshole' single was released. There's also a few other rarities that have been added.
Also, a good friend of mine sent me a review of the acoustic show Mark and Lenie played on June 8th. Read it here; it's a nice quick read and as far as I know it hasn't been posted elsewhere.
Lastly, I had received a nice e-mail from someone who helped me very much with the original Popkid 2000 site by sending me a ton of zeroxed articles and interviews. He recently became a father and sent me this great photo - looks like he's raising this kid right! He gave me permission to share it, and I thought I should....

Mark will be playing a free acoustic gig with Lenie Mets on Fri, June
8th. A rare opportunity
since Lenie is semi-retired from music these days.
Venue: The George, Commercial Rd, Whitechapel (doors
8.00pm). Also, Mark's new band 'Like a Bitch' will be playing a free show on Friday June 15th at Rooz Studios, London.

The rare sounds section has been updated with more late Senseless Things demo sessions from '93 - some of these recordings were released as b-sides to the 'Christine Keeler' and 'Something To Miss' singles. Also, the articles & reviews section has some new additions; to make them easy to locate these newly added sections are (for now) marked with asterisks (*).
If anyone has a copy of the 'American Dad (live)' recording that appeared on the Progression 7", please contact me. Some one was kind enough to hook me up with it many years ago and I seem to have lost it. Thanks.

The rare sounds section has some newly added demos from late '93. These were among the last demo sessions the band recorded, and included is the unreleased song Waiting To Happen. I have more from this era and will post that stuff in the near future.
Also, there are now two songs from the 1993 Mark Goodier Sessions. If anyone has any more information (or a better quality recording) of these sessions (when exactly they took place, were additional songs broadcast, etc) please contact me. Both songs were never released, although the grungy Reading About Kathy became the bridge to Dead Sun (but played much faster and more aggressively). Damn I love that song.
And of course remember Mark Keds L.A.B. will be playing Dollhouse on Saturday April 21st, one week from tonight.

Mark Keds L.A.B. will be playing Dollhouse on Saturday April 21st. This will take place at 333, which is at 333 Old Street in East London. From what I understand Mark will be playing a mixture of old and new material. This will be his first show since the Tribute 4 Wiz, and I have no doubt it will be a night to remember. Wish I could be there; please go if you can make it and let me know how it is! The night starts at 10, Mark should be going on around midnight, and from what I understand Dollhouse can be an all night affair (did I mention I really wish I could be there!?).

The rare sounds section has again been updated with a great live show from early (or mid?) 1989, when Girlfriend was the current single. Mark announces a lot of 'new' songs (a couple of which were written 'yesterday') and this appears to be a time when the Things were shaping up nicely and writing a lot of what would end up on Postcard CV. Of special interest is Drunk and Soppy which has different lyrics and a slightly different arrangement as well. MP3s are getting daily downloads, and I will definitely be adding more in the near future.

The articles & reviews section has been MASSIVELY updated. I got my hands on lots of press clippings (which span practically the entire career of Senseless Things) and spent a good portion of my weekend reading & scanning them. I have tried my best to keep them chronologicaly arranged, though I'm sure there are some exceptions. The rare sounds section has also been updated and now includes a compilation of early demos (more demos, radio sessions, and live shows will be added in the near future).

I'm happy to say the new site has gotten many visitors and a great response. A good question was thrown my way - was 'Is It Too Late?' really issued as a 7" or is that just a silly lie? If anyone knows the answer, please contact me. I also had some nice pics of the recent gig e-mailed my way, and I will get those up soon...

In August of 2002 I created the Popkid2000 Geocities web-site as a tribute to the Senseless Things, one of my favorite bands of all time. That site still gets daily hits (or it did before I pulled it down a couple of days ago), and in fact it generates more visitors now than it has in years (no doubt in large part due to the recent *almost* Senseless Things Reunion which took place on March 4, 2007 at Islington Academy as part of the 'Tribute 4 Wiz' show). As I've grown to despise the look of the old design, I thought it would be fun (and an appropriate time) to design a new web site. I always wanted to add more content than I was able to, so I purchased some web hosting space. Then I decided to purchase the 'senselessthings.com' domain while I was at it; why the heck not, says I. Thus, the GeoCities Popkid2000 site has retired and SenselessThings.com is born.

I plan to add to this site as often as I possibly can. I have some press clippings being mailed to me as I type this. As soon as I get them I will scan them and add them to the articles & reviews section, and I will always announce such additions right here on the updates page (what a grand system, eh!?). To make the site REALLY great fellow fans can assist. If you have any images or sounds that aren't available here please contact me so we can share it with fans everywhere. At least 2 people have an 'Andi In A Karmann' 'proof sleeve'; I would LOVE to see it. I also still don't know what the 'Why Me' and 'Disposable But Happy' cassette compilations look (or sound) like.
|
This site is in no way 'official', and I have no affiliation with the band. I do not own the rights to any recordings or images on this web site. I will only offer rare, out of print songs (yeah I know, ALL Senseless Things songs are technically 'Out of Print', but just try to follow me anyway...). Any recordings or images will IMMEDIATELY be pulled at the rightful owner's request (but pretty please don't request, can't we all just share and get along??).
|
While I *may* eventually consider asking for donations as renewal fees get closer, I will NEVER accept money for profit on this site or in exchange for any Senseless Things recordings. If donations received cover my costs to keep this site up, then donations will IMMEDIATELY stop being accepted. But for now, I'm not even asking, so look and listen and enjoy.

Cheers.
